Fred Shira died yesterday afternoon at his home on East Thirteenth street. The funeral will be tomorrow afternoon at 2 o'clock from the house. Rev. E. C. Beach will conduct the services, after which G. A. R. Post No. 120 will take charge

Deceased was born in Germany, May 10, 1934, and came to this country in his boyhood. He served as a gunner on the man-of-war Wabash from 1854 to 1857. In 1858, he enlisted in Company C, Second Regiment U. S. Artillery, and served full five years, when he was discharged. In 1865 he was married to Elizabeth Knor5s in Boston. He came to Newton in May 1883, and remained here ever since. He was known as an industrious man and a good citizen. He leaves his wife and one son, Gus. He was a member of Post No. 120, but the old soldiers of the city regardless of membership will attend the funeral.Burial will be in Greenwood cemetery this city.
